The Media’s Verbal Harassmentof American Women in Politics

In the USA, female politicians face online misogyny. This abuse is motivated by their aim to represent the people in the political field. For example, Hillary Clinton, the first female presidential candidate for the United States, got a lot of sexist remarks on social media such as “Life’s a b: do not vote for one” ( quoted in Weaving et al. 2023).  Another example is Kamala Harris, who got a lot of sexist remarks on social media when she first settled in the White House. One of these remarks claimed that “she slept her way to the top,” and thus, she is considered unsuitable to be a vice president (Pavliuc 2023). This is a harmful picture to paint of female political participants since it diminishes all of her efforts and does not give her credibility a chance.

This video discusses how online abuse of female political participants goes beyond any race or other classification. It is all women who suffer from this. The vide covers specifically Kamala Harris as she has become the top target once she assumed her position as vice president.
