The Women's Center and Women's History Month
We visited the Women's center where we met some hardworking women who were passionate about what they do. A difference I noticed between the Women's center on main campus and the one in Qatar is that there are student workers in the Women's center on main campus who are responsible for getting snacks, making posters, hosting events, creating social media content, and desigining stickers which are all very fun things to do that I think the Qatar campus could use as well.
REV. KELLY BROWN DOUGLAS
One of the most well-spoken and fascinating changemakers came to Georgetown and talked about how we must strive towards justice as she detailed the role of black women in church and debunked the "whiteness" of religion. I think what resonated with me most is how she explained Christianity as a source of strength and unity among women, and she takes a more personal approach where she speaks about being a black mother and that the hegemony that the white gaze has on religion and society is a concern she has for raising her children in such an environment. The most memorable moment is when she exclaimed Jesus is not white, and so the white washing of Christianity does not add up.
